Activity 3.1 – Human Population

France has a population of around sixty seven million and is one of the most populated countries in Europe. Because France has a birth rate that is declining, It has a relatively slow population growth. Something that does help to balance out the slow population growth is immigration. Despite having a population that is aging with an increasing proportion of senior residents, the nation continues to have one of the highest fertility rates in Europe. The majority of people live in metropolitan regions, especially in places like Toulouse, Lyon, Paris, and Marseille. With sizable immigrant populations, particularly from former colonies in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, France is a very diversified country with a rich cultural landscape. Although the core valve of the French is secularism, a majority of people are catholic due to the high impact that christianity had on the country. There is even a presence of the Muslim community which forms a significant minority throughout France. This country has an average overall life expectancy of around eighty two years which truly shows how strong the nation's healthcare system is. French is the official language, but regional languages such as Breton and Occitan still hold cultural significance.

Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe and is considered one of the more highly developed countries within Western Europe with a large population of six hundred fifty thousand people. Immigration has caused this country to have one of the highest population growth rates in Europe as well as so much success since it is considered a major financial and economic hub for all of the population as well as the immigrants. With half of the country's residents being foreign born, this country has become very diverse which can be reflected by the official languages of Luxembourg being Luxembourgish, French, and German while still a lot people are able to speak English and Portuguese. Like all of Europe, the population is gradually aging yet it still remains overall relatively young with a sizable working age population. Luxembourg has a high standard of living and life expectancy with an average lifespan of eighty two years, which can be attributed to its strong economy. In comparison to other European countries, the country of Luxembourg has a fairly high fertility rate, and its sophisticated social services and healthcare systems contribute to the general well being of its citizens in many ways.

One of the main contrasts is that France has a slow growth population vs Luxembourg has a high growth population since it's mainly habited by immigrants and the youth. While France has more of a traditional demographic aspect.

Comparing it to the world both of these countries fall within the more developed and high income within their GNI.
